Author's backgrounds

I'm curious to know if most of the regency authors are Americans or Britons. I know some are from many other parts of the world as well. But it's interesting because I wonder how many of them have a really good grounding in the regency setting. Of course, most readers probably don't have a terrific grounding themselves, so they are not aware if there are any errors.
