Let's not talk about literature from the Regency era - most of us touched on it in school. But what was the first romance you read from the genre now labelled as "Regency romance". My first was Georgette Heyer's (seems to be a common thread) "Lady of Quality". It was good, but I liked "Sylvester" better.

RE: What was the first 'Regency' you read?
My first Georgette Heyer was These Old Shades, which is a Georgian. My first Heyer Regency was The Nonesuch, for which I continue to have a soft spot. But I also love Frederica, Cotillion, Regency Buck, and The Corinthian.

My first was also a Heyer, I am not sure if it was The Masqueraders or Powder and Patch. Both excellent, I went on to read almost every Hyer historical, and love the genre to this day, oh, about 40+ years later.
